SDS is Happy to announce the launch of our first Check-In For Charity fundraiser! For every 10 patients that “check-in” to Schaumburg Dental Studio on their social media accounts during the month of May, we will donate enough for 1 hour of research to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

What Is Type 1 Diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes, formerly known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a lifelong condition in which the pancreas produces insufficient or no insulin, a hormone necessary for sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy.

Numerous factors contribute to type 1 diabetes, including genetics and exposure to certain viruses as a child. Although type 1 diabetes usually appears during childhood or adolescence, it also can begin in adults.

Despite active research, type 1 diabetes has no known cure, but it can be managed. With proper treatment, people with type 1 diabetes can expect to live longer, healthier lives than in the past.
